Dr. J. Matthew Cage is a board-certified, fellowship-trained adult and pediatric spine surgeon practicing in Honolulu, Hawaii. Dr. Cage completed Orthopaedic Surgery Residency training at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. Following residency, Dr. Cage completed fellowship training in adult and pediatric spine surgery at the University of California, Davis/Northern California Shriner’s Hospital. Dr. Cage’s clinical interests include spinal deformity surgery, minimally invasive surgery (MIS), and artificial disc replacement.

Dr. Cage is involved in academic medicine, holding an academic appointment as an assistant professor of surgery at the F. Edward Herbert School of Medicine and serving as the residency director for the Tripler Army Medical Center Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program.  Additionally, Dr. Cage is a reviewer for The Spine Journal, the highest-rated spine surgery publication in the world, and the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. Dr. Cage has numerous publications in the fields of Orthopaedics and spine surgery.

Dr. Cage is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is a member of the Hawaii Orthopaedic Association, Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society, AO Spine North America, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr. Cage’s clinical philosophy is to treat each patient as a member of his own family.
